Administration of Stocked Over the Counter Medication K-12th grades
Consent:
Parents will complete the over the counter medication consent at the beginning of the school year during registration. Parents will check which over the counter medications the student can receive while at school. NO CHILD will be given any of these medications without SIGNED consent.
The administration of over the counter medication will be determined by the child’s symptoms. The parent or guardian will be notified that the over the counter medication was administered in the health room, with the exception of the cough suppressant drops, ST 37 Antiseptic and Petroleum Jelly. Dosage will be specific to label directions.
Documentation:
Documentation will be recorded in the student information system Clinic Totals checking PRN “as needed " medication treatment choice.
Purpose:
The purpose of stocking over the counter medications is to keep students in school. Frequently students go home due to headache, stomach ache, and indigestion. when there is no fever present. Administering over the counter medication such as Ibuprofen, Tylenol, and Antacids, will decrease the need for parents to leave work to bring medications to their child or the child leaving school.
